Campervan Hire Cornwall - Campervan on the Beach - Cornish Motorhome Hire

Discover a Beautiful County, with Campervan Hire in Cornwall

If you are collecting your recently booked campervan hire in Cornwall from Cornish Motorhome Hire, and are heading down to the Cornish coast, we have put together a selected list of a few destinations you might enjoy.  Cornwall is a beautiful county – boasting stunning beaches, countryside, towns and traditional villages.  Although famous for its sandy coastline and seaside-type holidays, it is also steeped in history and culture.  There is something in Cornwall to suit all tastes, from the single traveller, to couples, families and groups of friends.

Padstow

Campervan Hire Cornwall - Quay - Cornish Motorhome Hire

Padstow is a picturesque harbour and is very popular – especially in the summer months.  With its bustling array of independent shops, interspersed with High Street branded establishments (and of course, pasty shops) it is a firm favourite with holidaymakers.  With fishing being the main industry, you could visit the Lobster Hatchery where they breed and nurture the lobsters before releasing them into the sea.  If fish appeals to your palette, Padstow (commonly known as PadStein) is home to some of the many restaurants owned by Rick Stein, a celebrity chef renown for his fish cookery.  For those who prefer a more informal approach, Rick also has a fish and chip shop, a delicatessen and a café in this area.  If you enjoy walking and history, there is a World War 1 & 2 memorial on the headland at St. Saviours Point – a short walk from the harbour, and a circular walk ‘Stepper Point and the Doom Bar.’ If you continue to walk along the coastline from the harbourside, you will discover some hidden coves and beaches where you can relax and bathe in the beauty of the Camel Estuary.  A passenger ferry operates between Padstow and Rock at regular intervals throughout the day.  If you wish to pitch your campervan for the night or longer, there are plenty of campsites to choose from, in and around the area.

St Ives.

Campervan Hire Cornwall - Harbour - Cornish Motorhome Hire

St. Ives is a must-see if you enjoy stretches of golden sands with arts and culture thrown in.  If driving your campervan hire in Cornwall, it is highly recommended.  There are several beaches – all within walking distance of each other, often sought after by those visiting from inner cities.  Porthminster and Porthmear are particularly impressive.  This seaside town also has a prominant art culture – with Tate St. Ives Gallery portraying modern art exhibitions, and the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Gardens showcasing bronze sculptures, amongst several small independent art gallery shops.  From here, you can take a trip on a boat to Seal Island to visit the seal colony – something not to be missed! If you are staying in the area for a few days or more, camping is plentiful – it is recommended that you camp in walking distance to the town, as parking near the harbour is limited.  If making a fleeting visit, there is a park and ride option – simply follow the signs.

Port Isaac

Campervan Hire Cornwall - Boats in Harbour - Cornish Motorhome Hire

Discover a quaint port whilst travelling in your campervan hire in Cornwall.  Famous for being the port where TV’s ‘Doc Martin’ is filmed, this pretty part of Kernow is transformed into the fictional ‘Port Wenn’ during filming – with some of the village shops morphing into parts of the set.  If you visit at the right time, you can sometimes catch the filming in progress.  At the top of the hill, you can walk to the ‘Dr’s surgery’ and the views across the water are exceptional. ‘The Old School House’ used in the programme is on the other side of the port, with the exterior still maintaining it’s original features.  With the cobbled, narrow streets and historic houses, this area of beauty comes alive during the summer months, with the public houses, cafes and restaurants ready to accommodate your requirements.  For the fish lovers, fresh produce is brought in from the sea daily – with lobsters, crab and other seafood on sale to the public.  In walking distance, there is Port Gaverne  – a small beach for you to bask in the sunshine or take a refreshing dip in the sea.  Camping is available in the vicinity.

Falmouth

Campervan Hire Cornwall - Castle - Cornish Motorhome Hire

Situated on the Fal Estuary, Falmouth is home to the world’s largest natural harbour; the deepest in Western Europe.  For marine enthusiasts, it is also home to a Maritime Museum with its interactive galleries and model boats. If castles float your boat, why not visit Pendennis Castle – built by Henry VIII, this 16th Century fortress is a historian’s dream.  They hold regular events, including a Medieval Day, complete with jesters, gallows, and jousting competitions – perfect for adults or families alike.  If you have green fingers, try Trebah Garden with its sub-tropical plants.  Beaches include the well-known Swanpool and Gyllyngvase and are easily accessible.  When planning to park your campervan to stay in the area, you will find plenty of campsites around.

Eden Project

Campervan Hire Cornwall - Eden Project - Cornish Motorhome Hire

A former clay mine, the Eden Project consists of an educational and recreational centre, with a focus on saving the environment.  You will find large biomes: one containing the world’s largest indoor rainforest complete with some of the indigenous reptiles, and also a Mediterranean biome amongst others.  It can get pretty warm – especially as you get closer to the top of the winding pathway.  Eden includes outdoor gardens and art installations (made from recycled waste).  Educating adults and children, this is an interesting place to visit and learn about the world around us.  Eden is also host to many live music concerts and has become a popular venue for some very well-known artists. Campsites are available nearby.
